Mayor says he’s unsure when new city manager chosen on Dec. 18 will finally be named

Mayor Mike Amyx said Tuesday the negotiation process had not yet ended with the person city commissioners selected as the new city manager and that he was not sure when he or she would be publicly named.

Commissioners chose the new city manager during a closed executive session Dec. 18. The selection came after interviews with the final three candidates: Rod Bremby, of Glastonbury, Conn.; Cheryl Harrison-Lee, of Gardner; and Tom Markus, of Iowa City, Iowa.

After the executive session, the commission unanimously passed a motion directing Ralph Andersen & Associates — the firm hired to help in the search — to enter into negotiations with the finalist.

The motion stated that the new city manager’s contract must gain approval from the City Commission during a public meeting. It was not specified when the contract would go before commissioners.

“We’ve had a major holiday since the time we had our meeting on the 18th; we had all last week with Christmas and holiday travel,” Amyx said Tuesday. “We’re just trying to make sure we’ve had the opportunity to have all the negotiations before there’s an announcement.”
