Weekend Guide: Santa Splash; ‘A Contemporary Christmas Carol’; Jazzhaus Christmas Formal; ‘A Christmas Story’

On the docket this weekend: swimming with Santa, big band music, “A Contemporary Christmas Carol” and “A Christmas Story.”

Santa Splash

Noon to 12:45 p.m., Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive

Cabin fever got you down? Take the kids out for a little exercise and holiday cheer at the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department’s Santa Splash.

Like its name implies, the family-friendly event combines swimming and a visit with Santa Claus, plus games and holiday crafts for kiddos aged 2 to 12.

Entry is $7 per child, though parents are required to pay admission if their child remains after the event to swim. Registration is also a must if you’re planning on taking part in the craftmaking — the deadline passed Wednesday, but you can register the day of the event if you don’t mind the possibility of missing out on crafts.

For more information, call 832-7946 or visit the city’s Parks and Recreation website, lawrenceks.org/lprd.

Point A School of Dance: ‘A Contemporary Christmas Carol’

6 p.m. Saturday, Lied Center Pavilion, 1600 Stewart Drive

This short and sweet show (it clocks in at just 30 minutes) from the young dancers of Point A and guest artists Point B Contemporary Dance Company, both of Lawrence, lends a modern twist to Charles Dickens’ classic tale.

As with the original tale, the true meaning of Christmas will be discovered, naturally.

Tickets cost $5, and can be purchased solely through Point A at 3300 Bob Billings Parkway or 402-785-8535.
