Prep football showdown set

The Sunflower League announced Friday a two-year agreement with Missouri’s Suburban Conference to have teams from both leagues play against each other in football over the next two seasons.

The Sunflower-Suburban Showdown will be played next season on the weekend of Sept. 15-16, 2016, which is the third week of the season for Kansas teams. For the showdown, Lawrence High will travel to Lee’s Summit West, and Free State will go on the road to play Park Hill.

Lee’s Summit West went 6-6 last season, but won a state championship in Missouri’s Class 5 in 2013. Park Hill owned an 11-2 record this fall, losing in the Class 5 quarterfinals.
