Veritas girls win; boys fall to Cornerstone

Veritas Christian School committed a whopping 29 fouls, and Cornerstone Family took advantage.

Boosted by a huge edge in free-throw points, Cornerstone escaped with a 76-73 overtime victory in high school boys basketball on Friday at the Corpus Christi gym.

Cornerstone outscored Veritas 25-7 from the line.

The Eagles trailed by 16 points late in the third quarter but took a one-point lead with a minute left in regulation.

Miles Dressler led the Eagles with 18 points. He was joined in double figures by Chad Stieben (15), Trey Huslig (12) and Michael Rask and Kalim Dowdell (10 apiece).

Noah Frederick went 6-for-7 from three-point range to lead Cornerstone with 34 points.

The Eagles (3-1) will play today at Topeka Heritage.

Topeka Cornerstone 32

Chloe Holland scored 15 points, and Veritas Christian rolled to a 51-32 girls basketball victory over Topeka Cornerstone on Friday night.

“It was probably the best we’ve looked overall in the early season,” Veritas coach Kevin Shelton said, “both defensively and offensively.”

Emma Wilson scored 10 points and Tori Huslig added nine point for the Eagles.

Veritas (2-1) will play today at Topeka Heritage.
