Baldwin City woman accused of sex crimes against boy

A Baldwin City woman has been arrested on suspicion of several sex crimes against a boy from Lawrence, police said Friday.

The 33-year-old woman was arrested Thursday and booked into the Douglas County Jail on one felony count each of having unlawful sexual relations, sexual exploitation of a child and a misdemeanor charge of promoting obscenity.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Trent McKinley said the boy’s parents contacted police Thursday after discovering he had a sexual relationship with the woman. The two had apparently known each other for several months.

The relationship between the boy, who is in his teens, and the woman allegedly included both physical contact and the sharing of sexual pictures, McKinley said.

The woman was interviewed and arrested by police at the Investigations and Training Center at 4820 Bob Billings Parkway, McKinley said. She is being held in the Douglas County Jail on a $40,000 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
