FSHS’ Laufer named all-state

Free State High senior midfielder Will Laufer was selected first-team all-state in Class 6A by the Kansas Soccer Coaches Association on Thursday.

Laufer, a Central Arkansas commit, scored six goals for the Firebirds this year, leading Free State to an 11-6-1 record, the most wins in a season since 2009.

Lawrence High senior defenseman Piper Hubbell was selected second-team all-state after scoring two goals and adding two assists.

Among area players, De Soto’s Noah Lamar, Austin Culver, Andrew Dowdy and Kyle Moose, and Tonganoxie’s Tyler Novotney, were picked first-team all-state in 4-1A.

Tonganoxie’s Logan Williams and Alex Kroll, along with De Soto’s Lucas Zoller, were chosen for the second team. Mill Valley’s Christian Howe was a second team selection in 5A.
