City announces hours, closings for upcoming Labor Day holiday

The city of Lawrence has announced holiday hours and closings for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

All city administrative offices will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

No yard waste collection will take place on Monday. Collection will resume on Sept. 14. No other changes are planned in the solid waste route schedules. Commercial pickups will run as usual.

The Lawrence Transit System will be closed on Monday. Fixed route and paratransit buses will not run.

To report a water or sewer emergency after business hours or during weekends and holidays, contact the Utilities Department at (785) 832-7800.

Parking at meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Monday.

All recreation centers will be open regular hours on the holiday except the Community Building, which is having its gymnasium floor refinished. This includes: 8 a.m. -9 p.m. East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St. and Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St. Sports Pavilion Lawrence will be open 5:30 a.m.-9 p.m. The Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with only the front desk open for registration.

The administrative offices in South Park, 1141 Massachusetts St., Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St. and the aquatics administrative offices will be closed.

There will be no recreational classes, gymnastics classes, gymnastics open gym, aquatic classes, special populations activities, special events, adult sports or youth sports held on the holiday. Special Populations Coffeehouse will take place on Sept. 14.

The cemeteries office, located at the administrative offices in South Park, will be closed, but all cemeteries will be open Monday.

Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Road, will be accepting tee times from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eagle Bend will also hold a Two-person scramble on Labor Day. Tee times for the tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Cost for the 18-hole, two-person tournament is $100 per team. The fee includes green and cart fees, as well as prizes. The Outdoor Aquatic Center, Eighth and Kentucky Streets, will be open from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday. This will be the final day of operation at the outdoor pool. The Pooch Plunge will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 8. To register online, please visit http://lprd.org/activity?n=311142. All dogs must have proof of current vaccinations the day of the event and stay under their owner’s control at all times. Registration will also be available at the door.

Carl Knox Natatorium will be closed Monday. It will reopen to the public 6:15-8:30 p.m. on Sept. 8.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will also be closed, but will reopen to the public at 5:15 a.m. Sept. 8, with fall hours, which can be found at https://www.lawrenceks.org/lprd/aquatics/iac.
