40 years ago: Students return to Mount Oread after summer break

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 18, 1975:

The start of classes was still a week away, but Kansas University had been a scene of bustling activity this past Sunday as student began returning from summer break. At residence halls, cars were double-parked as students and parents hauled armloads of belongings into the buildings. Students also lined up in front of the Chancellor’s residence for Chancellor Archie Dykes’ reception for new students, where representatives from the KU Student Senate and Student Union Activities helped answer questions. “They really don’t have too many questions,” Dukes said. “Most are coming with anticipation about new classes and new roommates. And there are a considerable number of international students.”
