Bike ride: The Lawrence’s Bike Club’s Summer Fun Beginners Bike Ride will be every Monday through Aug. 31. Ride begins at 6:30 p.m. at Cycle Works, 2121 Kasold Dr. Approximately 10 mph for 10 miles mostly on Lawrence Bike Path. Tech tips first Monday of each month. Brandon Schneider Golf: The inaugural Brandon Schneider Golf Tournament will tee off on Aug. 22 at Alvamar Golf and Country Club. Registration is open for singles, pairs and foursomes. Cost is $100 per person, which includes green fees, cart, range balls, dinner and a goodie bag. All proceeds from the tournament support Kansas women’s basketball and the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Breast Center. Golf begins at 1 p.m., with a shotgun start of the four-person scramble. Dinner will follow at 6 p.m., and includes live and silent auctions. Throughout the day, participants will get a chance to meet the 2015-16 Kansas women’s basketball team and staff, who will be on the course cheering and visiting with the teams. Trail Hawks trail races: The Lawrence Trail Hawks will host the fourth-annual Hawk 100-, 50- and 26.2-mile trail races Sept. 12-13 at Clinton Lake. The “Hawk Hundred” 100-Mile Trail Run features four, 25-mile loops on Clinton Lake’s wooded, rocky, root-bound North Shore trail system. The “Hawk 50” runners will complete two laps of the 25-mile course, while the runners in the 26.2-mile Hawk Marathon “fun run” will add an extra 1.2 miles off-trail to the beginning of their one-lap race. The races begin and end at Shelter 1 in the Army Corps of Engineers’ Overlook Park section of Clinton Lake State Park. Runners will visit fully staffed aid-stations at four points along the course, approximately every six miles. Runners in the 100- and 50-mile races start 6 a.m. Marathoners begin at 7 a.m. The course will stay open 32 hours, 6 a.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday. Kansas rugby get-together: Kansas Jayhawks Rugby Football Club will host a Try On Rugby Meet ‘N’ Greet from 6-7:30 p.m., Aug. 27, next to the KU sand volleyball courts on Sunnyside Avenue. Family Promise golf tournament: Cindy Self and Raynee Beaty are co-chairs of the Family Promise Golf Tournament and Auction Party. These events have raised $320,000 over the past five years to help transform the lives of homeless children and their families in Lawrence. The auction party Sept. 20 at Maceli’s will feature hot food and complimentary wine and beer and soft drinks. Bidders will vie for silent- and live-auction items ranging in value from $25 gift certificates to vacation trips to Florida and Costa Rica. On Sept. 21, four-person teams will compete in two flights for a variety of individual and team prizes at Alvamar CC in a scramble format. Registration starts at noon, box lunches follow, shotgun start at 1 p.m., a barbecue buffet dinner with awards at 5:30. Non-golfers can purchase tickets to the auction party separately. Dr. Bob Run: The sixth-annual Dr. Bob Run — in honor of former KU Athletic Director and Sport Management Lecturer Dr. Bob Frederick — will be held on Sept. 19 at KU’s premier cross country course, Rim Rock Farm. The Dr. Bob Run is sponsored by the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences and the School of Education. Events, which begin at 8 a.m., include a Hy-Vee One Mile Kids Run and a 5K run.
