Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle coming to Lawrence Arts Center

John Darnielle, frontman of acclaimed indie folk rock band the Mountain Goats, will play a solo show next month at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St.

The 8 p.m. Sept. 9 show will be part of the Arts Center’s Nine Forty LIVE performance series. Tickets, at $20 for general admission, quietly went on sale earlier this week. The concert will be just the second stop on Darnielle’s fall tour, which begins Sept. 8 in St. Louis.

Darnielle, who founded the Mountain Goats in the early 1990s, has been recognized as “America’s best non-hip-hop lyricist” by The New Yorker and one of the 21st century’s greatest living songwriters by Paste magazine. His first novel, Wolf in White Van, published last year, was nominated for the National Book Award for Fiction.
