LHS softball triumphs twice

? Lawrence High’s softball team won both of its games in the Shawnee Mission South Jamboree on Saturday at the Olathe District Athletic Complex.

The Lions used their offense to beat St. Thomas Aquinas, 10-0, and top Holton, 12-2. Against Aquinas, LHS scored nine runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-run home run from junior Sophie Taylor and a RBI single by Taylor.

In its second game, LHS (7-5) took a 9-1 lead after a five-run third inning against Holton. Taylor and senior Kenzie Garvin hit home runs in the first inning, and Morgan Husman and Morgan Byrn hit two-run singles in the third. Senior Jolona Shield ended the game in the fifth inning, because of the 10-run rule, with a three-run home run to center field.

The Lions will travel to Olathe Northwest at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
