Just Food offers volunteer events

Just Food, a Douglas County food bank, needs volunteers for upcoming events, including the Kansas Food Truck Festival and Stamp Out Hunger, a food drive.

Just Food, 1000 E 11th St., will host bag stapling events on April 27 and April 29 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Volunteers will staple informational cards to grocery bags for Stamp Out Hunger. Volunteers are expected to bring their own staplers, but grocery bags and dinner will be provided.

The Kansas Food Truck Festival will be held on May 2 inn the 800 block of Pennsylvania St. Volunteers can sign up for shifts from 4 to 11:30 p.m. that day. Duties include checking IDs, beer and soda distribution and clean-up services. All volunteers will receive access to the event outside their shift.

Stamp Out Hunger, the National Association of Letter Carrier’s food drive, will be the morning of May 9. Participants can leave a bag of non-perishable food by their mailbox for local letter carriers to pick up. Last year, Douglas County collected 25,000 pounds of food, and this year Just Food hopes to surpass that goal.
