Weather may turn severe Friday evening
Rainy Friday weather may turn severe in the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop after 3 p.m. in central Kansas, moving east/northeast during the evening hours.
As of its 12:14 forecast, the NWS predicted a “slight risk” of severe storms for Lawrence and Douglas County. The potential for tornadoes will be low, but damaging winds and 1-inch hail are possible.
More showers may pass through the area Saturday morning before giving way to a clear but windy weekend.
Temperatures will reach about 70 degrees on Saturday, cooling off to the mid-40s overnight and reaching the lower 60s on Sunday. Winds of 10 to 20 mph — gusting up to 25 mph at times — are expected through Sunday.
