April’s Final Friday marks the kickoff to the Summer Arts show at Art Emergency, 721 E. Ninth St.

The shindig, which runs from 5 to 11 p.m., will feature live printmaking, blacksmithing and rock-carving demonstrations in addition to musical performances by The Brody Buster Band, The Eugenes and The Fitts of Fire.

Displayed work includes sculptures by Nick Schmiedeler, mixed-media pieces by Theresa Shelter Logan and celebrity charcoal portraits by Cade Cranston. Attendees will also find a hand-painted teepee full of Native American art parked on the front lawn, plus late-night eats from Drasko’s Food Truck at 9 p.m.

Other Final Friday happenings:

• The See/Saw Film Festival opens at 6 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St., with a screening of “Song of the Sea.” The 2014 Irish film, a nominee for best animated feature at this year’s Academy Awards, is based on the ancient Celtic myth of the selkies — creatures said to live as seals under water that morph into humans on land. The festival, organized by two Kansas University doctoral students in special education, focuses on stories of children, particularly from marginalized backgrounds, and asks the question, “What does it mean to grow up in the 21st century?” The entire festival is free and open to the public.

• Artist Rachael Perry has spent the past year photographing the faces of the Lawrence arts scene with her local take on the worldwide Inside Out project. Featuring more than 600 people, her black-and-white portraits document not just artists but those who appreciate and support the arts locally.

The photographs will be displayed in prints large and small throughout the city starting this Final Friday. Locations include the Lawrence Arts Center, Lawrence Percolator, Lawrence Public Library, Watkins Museum of History, Lawrence Creates Makerspace, the Warehouse Arts District and downtown storefronts, as well as unnamed spots throughout Lawrence.

• The Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., will host an opening reception for “365: From Kansas to the Caribbean, New Works by Ann Dean” from 5 to 9 p.m. Dean’s photographs “capture a range of moments from straightforward beauty to surrealist flashes within everyday life,” the Arts Center says. The Lawrence-based artist will discuss her new exhibition at 7 p.m. April 30 at the Arts Center.
