Lawrence High baseball blanked

? Lawrence High’s baseball team was held to just one hit in a 12-0 loss Monday at Shawnee Mission East.

At the plate, the Lions fell behind in counts and struck out 11 times against SM East junior left-hander Joey Wentz, who has committed to play at the University of Virginia.

“Just got completely dominated by Shawnee Mission East,” LHS coach Brad Stoll said. “Their kid is really, really special on the mound. And they got good pitches to hit in hitter’s counts and took advantage of that.”

The Lions (2-8) will face Blue Valley Northwest in their first game of the River City Baseball Festival at 5 p.m. Thursday at Hoglund Ballpark.
