Clinton Lake Cleanup scheduled for Saturday

The public is invited to participate in the 31st annual Clinton Lake Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, the Clinton Lake Cleanup Committee announced in a news release.

The event, hosted in conjunction with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks and the Clinton Marina, will begin with registration at 9 a.m. at Shelter No. 1 in the overlook park at the north end of Clinton dam.

More than 9,000 people have volunteered over the past 30 years to help maintain the area’s beauty by picking up litter. Each year, Clinton Lake receives more than 1 million visitors, the release said.

Volunteers on Saturday will get a free hot dog lunch and information on recycling. There will also be a “weird trash” contest, “cash for trash” prizes and a possible visit by Woodsy Owl.

For more information or to pre-register volunteers, contact park ranger Kipp Walters at (785) 843-7665.

The Clinton Lake Cleanup will take place “rain or shine,” the release said, but if the weather looks dangerous, listen to KLWN 1320 AM or call Walters.
