Lawrence gets half an inch of rain Saturday

Steady rain falling Saturday across Douglas County nearly brought the area within the normal month-to-date precipitation range, but 2015 so far is still much drier than usual.

As of 11 p.m. Saturday, Lawrence had recorded about half an inch of rain, increasing precipitation to 2.17 inches in April, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka. The normal month-to-date mark for April is 2.25 inches. But Lawrence’s year-to-date precipitation total now sits at 4.57 inches, well short of the 7.3-inch average, according to NWS.

Sunday’s forecast calls for more rain and possible thunderstorms, though the storms are unlikely to produce the strong winds and hail predicted earlier in the weekend, according to forecasters. The greatest chance for steady precipitation is Sunday evening, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Monday will bring a return to dry weather, lasting into Thursday, before more showers are possible.
