Vollmer leads heptathlon

Kansas University All-American Lindsay Vollmer took the overnight lead in the heptathlon as the Kansas Relays kicked off Wednesday at Rock Chalk Park.

Vollmer, the 2013 NCAA heptahlon champion, was the top scorer in all four events Wednesday: the 100 (13.63 seconds), high jump (1.70 meters, or 5-foot-7), shot put (12.08 meters, 39-73/4) and 200 (24.99).

She has 3,440 points, 466 more than the runner-up.

Colorado State’s Hunter Price leads the decathlon with 3,691 points after Day One.

The heptathlon will resume at 9 this morning as the Relays gets underway in earnest. The Relays runs through Saturday.
