University of Arkansas Little-Rock women’s basketball coach Joe Foley interviewed Wednesday for the Kansas University vacancy created by the firing of Bonnie Henrickson.

A 1979 graduate of Central Arkansas University, Foley has coached the Trojans to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. A No. 11 seed in this year’s tourney, UALR upset Texas A&M in the opening round and lost to No. 3 seed Arizona State by three points in the second round. In 2010, Foley took the school to its first appearance in the Div. I NCAA Tournament as a No. 11 seed that upset No. 6 seed Georgia before losing to Sherri Coale’s Oklahoma Sooners in the second round.

Foley came to Arkansas-Little Rock from Arkansas Tech, where he posted 16 consecutive 20-victory seasons, had six 30-victory seasons and coached the school to consecutive NAIA national championships (1992, 1993) and lost in the NCAA Div. II national-title game in 1999.

Foley, according to his bio in the UALR media guide, also won 14 consecutive conference championships at Arkansas Tech.

Foley, Stephen F. Austin’s Brandon Schneider and Wichita State’s Jody Adams are among the finalists. Adams will interview today.

Henrickson, who coached KU into the NCAA Tournament twice in 11 seasons, has had discussions with UC Santa Barbara and Utah about their coaching vacancies.
