KU tennis rallies past Sooners, 4-3

? Kansas University dropped the doubles point, then rallied with straight-set victories in four singles matches to claim a 4-3 Big 12 tennis victory over No. 29-ranked Oklahoma on Sunday.

Kansas’ Maria Belen Ludueña and Madison Harrison won at No. 1 doubles, but OU won the other two doubles matches to win the singles point.

Smith Hinton (at No. 2), Harrison (No. 3), Summer Collins (No. 4) and Alexis Czapinski (No. 6) won singles matches as KU snapped a six-match losing streak to the Sooners.

Kansas improved to 8-12 overall, 4-3 in the Big 12 — the Jayhawks’ first four-win conference season since 2008-09.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team today,” KU coach Todd Chapman said. “The way we battled adversity and fought back after feeling like we let the doubles point slip away was fantastic. We talked all week about knowing we could win these types of matches. We have been so close all year, and lost so many close matches, it was great to pull one through.”

Kansas will play Friday at Baylor and Sunday at Texas to conclude the regular season.
