Today in Lawrence: Ninth Street Corridor, take two

Mixed bag

Yesterday’s wild weather, thank goodness, is mostly behind us, but not entirely. Look for a straggler thunderstorm around 10 a.m. before a sunny and breezy afternoon with highs in the mid-60s. Friday and Saturday will be sunny with highs near 70, then thunderstorms will return Sunday through Tuesday.

Book sale

Starting tonight, you can check out more than 40,000 books and other items for sale at the Friends of the Library Book Sale, which runs through Sunday. Tonight’s kickoff from 5 to 7 p.m. is open to Friends members; then the public is invited to shop starting at 10 a.m. Friday. The sale is on the lower level of the downtown library, 707 Vermont St.

Ninth Street Corridor

The second in a series of public workshops surrounding the planned Ninth Street Corridor project will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. at New York Elementary School’s cafeteria, 936 New York St. At the first meeting Wednesday, a team of designers, led by Kansas City-based urban design firm el dorado inc. and featuring artists, designers and landscape artists from Lawrence and beyond, discussed street design and urban landscaping with the public. Tonight, the role of public art in the project will be discussed.
