Architecture students open retrofitted Airstream trailer to public
The community is invited to check out a retro Airstream trailer-turned rolling community center this week at the Kansas University School of Architecture, Design and Planning.
The school’s “moCOLAB” will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday in front of Marvin Hall, 1465 Jayhawk Blvd.
Over the past year architecture students and professors Nils Gore and Shannon Criss gutted, cleaned and renovated the 1972 Airstream Sovereign Land Yacht so its interior is now usable for research and displays, according to a news release from KU. They hope to establish borrowing procedures to allow KU researchers and faculty to tow it around the state for public-interest projects involving Kansas communities.
The moCOLAB will be on display in conjunction with the KU Center for Civic and Social Responsibility‘s Big Share meeting, an informal gathering of university faculty to discuss service-learning challenges and ideas.
