40 years ago: Record lows follow on heels of early spring storm

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 3, 1975:

Lawrence residents were beginning to thaw out this morning after the off-season winter storm of the previous day, which had been followed by record low temperatures overnight. A low of 13 degrees this morning was three degrees below a record for this date set in 1936, but warmer weather was on its way, according to the reassurances of the weather forecasters. Gardeners were anxiously awaiting evidence of damage to spring flowers and shrubs which had been about to bloom when the cold weather arrived. “Of particular concern is the state of early jonquils and forsythia bushes which gave indications of being particularly pretty this year,” stated an article today.
