McDonald’s All-America game: Diallo tops among all-stars

? Kansas University recruiting target Cheick Diallo scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to pace the East team to a 111-91 victory over the West in Wednesday’s McDonald’s All-America game at the United Center.

Diallo, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound power forward from Our Savior New American in Centereach, New York, who is considering KU, Kentucky, Pitt, Iowa State and St. John’s, hit eight of 14 shots and was named game MVP.

“Cheick Diallo didn’t have the best pair of workouts in Chicago this week, but his motor and elite rebounding are on full display tonight,” Jeff Borzello of ESPN tweeted during the game.

Carlton Bragg, a 6-9 forward from Villa Angela-St. Joseph High in Cleveland, who has committed to KU, scored nine points off 3-of-7 shooting for the losing West team. He was 1-of-3 from three and also had a breakaway windmill slam dunk.

KU target Jaylen Brown, 6-7 from Wheeler High in Marietta, Georgia, had nine points and six rebounds for the East.

For the West, KU target Brandon Ingram, 6-8 forward from Kinston (North Carolina) High, scored 15 points off 6-of-11 shooting with five rebounds.

“When we’re talking about 7-8 years from now, I think it’s very easy to think Brandon Ingram could be the best of this group,” noted ESPN’s Borzello.

KU recruit Stephen Zimmerman, 7-foot from Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, contributed six points and six boards, and KU target Malik Newman, 6-3 from Callaway High in Jackson, Mississippi, had just one point with five assists and three turnovers for the West. Newman was 0-for-7 shooting.

The country’s No. 1 recruit, future LSU player Ben Simmons, scored seven points with 10 boards for the East. Maryland commit Diamond Stone had 14 points and three boards for the East. Arizona commit Allonzo Trier had 17 points and four boards for the West.

Before the game, Eric Bossi of rivals.com, who watched the McDonald’s practices this week, wrote on Twitter: “I still feel Ben Simmons is top player in the class. Brandon Ingram arguably has been the top performer. Development over last year, impressive.”
