Just Food, Hy-Vee partnering to offer community meal this Easter weekend

Douglas County’s food bank, Just Food, and Hy-Vee grocery stores have teamed up to offer free community meals on Saturday, Just Food CEO Jeremy Farmer said in a release.

A part of the #HashtagLunchbag movement, the meals are meant for anyone in need of a meal this Easter weekend, the release said. Friends, families and individuals are all invited.

The #HashtagLunchbox movement is dedicated to harnessing social media to battle hunger in local communities.

The meals will be passed out at the gazebo in South Park, which is near 11th and Massachusetts streets, and at the train in Watson Park, which is near Sixth and Kentucky streets, at 6 p.m.

“We want to make this an annual event, and we have some surprises up our sleeve,” Farmer said in the release. “Bring your friends and family who are in need of a meal. It will be an event you won’t soon forget.”
