Two Lawrence school district students have been selected by the National Achievement Program as Outstanding Participants.

Free State High School’s Kenneth Palmer, son of Juana Simons and Caleb Palmer of Lawrence, and Lawrence High School’s Spencer Fuller, son of Victoria Fuller of Lawrence, were chosen.

About 160,000 students entered the competition, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Of those, 3,100 are named Outstanding Participants, while 1,600 are named semifinalists.

The full roster of Outstanding Participants is sent to admissions officials at various high education institutions. Semifinalists compete for a $2,500 scholarship and other corporate-sponsored awards.
