Three candidates forwarded to Brownback for Douglas County judicial post

The names of three people have been forwarded to Gov. Sam Brownback to fill a district judge vacancy in Douglas County.

The candidates are Chelsi Kay Hayden, James McCabria and Bethany Roberts.

Brownback has 60 days to decide who will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of District Court Judge Michael Malone.

Hayden is currently a professor of lawyering skills at Kansas University’s School of Law. She has worked as chambers counsel to U.S. District Judge Carlos Murguia and as a litigation associate with Shook, Hardy & Bacon. She graduated from the KU School of Law.

McCabria is senior assistant district attorney in the Douglas County district attorney’s office. He has worked as assistant attorney general in the Kansas attorney general’s office and as a solo practitioner. He graduated from the Tulsa University School of Law.

Roberts is managing attorney with the Topeka Kansas Legal Services. She graduated from the KU School of Law.
