Starlight walking tour of Mount Oread set for Monday morning

Retired Kansas University professor Theodore Johnson will lead his 23rd annual autumnal equinox walking tour of Mount Oread from 5-11 a.m. Monday.

The starlight tour will begin at Jayhawk Boulevard and 14th Street. Those who take the tour will study the architecture of KU buildings, according to a university news release. The tour begins with former university library Spooner Hall, moving on to the main door of Watson Library and then to the eastern façade of Stauffer-Flint Hall, the news release said.

Participants will watch the sky brighten as the sun rises about 7 a.m. Those on the tour will study iconography dealing with astronomy and other subjects sculpted on the eastern façade of the Natural History Museum from 10-11 a.m., the news release said.
