25 years ago: KC car dealer to open Lawrence branch

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 18, 1989:

  • More than four months after Lawrence dealership Dinwiddie Chevrolet had liquidated its inventory, a new owner was reported to be close to announcing a date for its reopening. Bill Zavala, who was to manage the local dealership, said Sonny Hill Motors of Kansas City was hoping to open its doors at the 3400 Iowa Street location. “Paperwork is progressing in a timely manner and if all goes well, we will have an October 1st opening,” Zavala said.
  • A list of the world’s highest-paid entertainers was released by Forbes magazine this week, with Michael Jackson at the top of the heap, just edging out moviemaker Steven Spielberg. Bill Cosby had dropped from second to third place this year. The remainder of the top ten were boxer Mike Tyson, cartoonist Charles Schulz, comedian and actor Eddie Murphy, the group Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, talk show host Oprah Winfrey, and pop singer George Michael.
