Lions place third at Topeka tennis

? Lawrence High’s No 1 doubles team of Anna and Yelena Birt went 4-0 to take first place Wednesday in the Topeka High Invitational.

The Lions placed third among eight schools in the team standings. Olathe East won with 29 points, followed by Olathe South with 24, LHS with 22 and Topeka High with 21. The LHS No. 2 doubles team of Caroline Baloga and Natalie Cote went 3-1 to take third place.

Kendall Pritchard (2-2) took fifth in No. 1 singles, and Erin Ventura (2-2) was fifth in No. 2 singles.

“Today was a very positive day,” LHS coach Chris Marshall said. “I’m very proud of the Birt twins. They played some wonderdul tennis today.”
