KCPT to broadcast documentary on Kansas University Wind Ensemble’s Carnegie Hall debut

Kansas Public Television will air hour-long documentary “From Concept to Concert Hall” featuring the Kansas University Wind Ensemble and its Carnegie Hall debut last year at 7:30 p.m. this Thursday.

In March 2013, the wind ensemble premiered Mohammed Fairouz’s large-scale composition “In the Shadow of No Towers,” a symphony about the events that followed the Sept. 11 attacks and how the aftermath has shaped people in today’s political climate. The 69 members traveled to New York City for a rare university experience of performing at Carnegie Hall, directed by Paul W. Popiel.

The documentary follows the wind ensemble’s experience from its inception to its unique opportunity playing a piece commissioned specifically for them by high profile composer Fairouz and the critically acclaimed Carnegie Hall debut.
