• Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s Endowment Association will host a free seminar featuring Kansas Insurance Commissioner and former Lawrence mayor Sandy Praeger. Praeger will give a talk at the seminar, titled “Caring for Yourself When You Need it Most: An Update on Long-Term Care Insurance.” It will begin at 4 p.m., Sept. 24 at the Lawrence Country Club, 400 Country Club Terrace. • Marilyn Bittenbender, of Lawrence, has been appointed to a three-year term on the Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns by Gov. Sam Brownback. Bittenbender is a graduate of Kansas University and works for Winbury Realty of Kansas City, LLC.

• Peggy Johnson, a private wealth advisor with Ameriprise Financial, attended the 2014 Ameriprise National Conference in Boston. A select number of high-performing Ameriprise financial advisors earn the distinction. Her office in Lawrence is located at 3200 Mesa Way.

• The United Way of Douglas County announced that Linda Brandenburger has joined its staff as the AmeriCorps program manager. She will oversee all 18 of the agency’s AmeriCorps members.

• Lawrence’s Dana Niemack, owner of Tooter and Tillaye’s Home Goods, recently completed advanced training for medicine wheel feng shui with the Interior Alignment school. Niemack has practiced interior design and fang shui since 1987.
