Olathe ? Lawrence High’s volleyball team picked up its first victories of the season Saturday, going 2-3 in the Olathe South Tournament.

The Lions defeated Wichita Southeast, 25-10, 24-26, 25-14, and Shawnee Mission South, 25-22, 25-21, and fell to Blue Valley Northwest, 25-12, 25-21, Manhattan, 25-16, 25-19, and Olathe South, 25-17, 25-14.

Leading the way for the Lions were Marlee Bird with 39 assists, Laurel Bird with 27 assists, Keeli Billings with 13 kills and 35 digs, Katie Murrish with 35 digs and seven service aces, Nicole Owens with 32 digs and six service aces, Caroline Dykes with 40 kills, Cienna Sorell with 16 kills and Jensen Edwards with 14 kills.

“We made a lot of strides today and played well as a team,” LHS coach Stephanie Magnuson said.
