FSHS volleyball starts 0-2

? Free State High started its volleyball season 0-2 with losses to Topeka Seaman and Lansing on Thursday at the Lansing triangular.

The Lions were swept by Topeka Seaman, 25-19, 25-22, before falling to Lansing in three sets, 25-20, 21-25, 25-18.

Paige Corcoran had 26 digs for FSHS.

Naomi Hickman and Payton Gannaway paced the Firebirds offensively with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Despite opening the season 0-2, Firebirds’ coach Nancy Hopkins saw plenty to be encouraged about from her young squad.

“For the first time out, we did a lot of good things,” Hopkins said.

FSHS will play Thursday at Shawnee Mission East.
