Kansas Advocates for Better Care to honor Praeger at Oct. 26 benefit

Kansas Advocates for Better Care will host a benefit Oct. 26 at which it will honor Sandy Praeger, the recipient of the 2014 KABC Caring Award.

Praeger, the Kansas insurance commissioner, received the award for her longstanding commitment to quality health and long-term care for older Kansans, the nonprofit said. As a state legislator, she worked with KABC to pass laws to expand independence, choice and services for seniors living at home, as well as quality and choice for nursing-home residents. She helped expand access to assisted-living services to allow people to age in place and offer tax credits for purchasing long-term care insurance.

The “Stand by Me” benefit will be from 2-5 p.m. at Maceli’s, 1031 New Hampshire St. There will be light hors d’oeuvres, music, dancing and auctions. There is no cost to attend but donations are welcome. RSVP is required by Oct. 13 to 785-832-3088 or info@kabc.org.

Kansas Advocates for Better Care is the Lawrence-based advocacy organization for the 90,000 Kansans who require long-term care.
