Fog greets Lawrence after storms roll through Midwest

Lawrence was greeted with heavy fog Tuesday morning after storms rolled through the Midwest on Monday night, including a tornado sighting in southeast Kansas and reports of large hail in that area.

Lawrence Municipal Airport reported a half-inch of rain overnight into Tuesday morning.

Basehunters Chasing, a weather photography group out of Norman, Okla., tweeted a photo Monday night of a tornado touching down in Dexter, in south-central Kansas. The National Weather Service confirmed large hail in the area. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch in southeast Kansas Tuesday morning.

Today’s forecast from Accuweather calls for a high around 88 degrees with a heat index of about 94. Tonight will bring more humidity and a low of about 69 with a 60 percent chance of more thunderstorms.

Thursday will bring more heat, with a high of 94 and sunny skies, but temperatures will start to fall on Friday, and Saturday’s high is forecast for 79 with more thunderstorms as the cooler weather comes through the area.
