Former Lawrence mayor to serve as chairman of hospital board

Confusion has led to a new set of officers for the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees.

The board at a special meeting on Friday morning elected a new slate of officers, after several members of the board said they were confused about the nomination process that occurred recently.

Former Lawrence Mayor Rob Chestnut on Friday was elected to serve as the board’s chairman. He takes over from Allen Belot. Friday’s vote took place after the previously elected slate of officers resigned their seats in an effort to accommodate the new election.

Belot said he was fine with the change in officers. He said it became clear recently that several members of the board were confused about the new nomination process the board is using to choose officers. Previously, a governance sub-committee of the board produced nominations for the slate of directors, but this year the process changed to include the entire board.

“It has become apparent there was confusion about our nomination process, and some members felt somewhat disenfranchised,” Belot said. “That can’t happen, and that needs to be corrected immediately.”

In addition to Chestnut, Cindy Yulich will serve as vice-chairman, Mike Wildgen will serve as treasurer, and Gina Pacumbaba-Watson as secretary.
