The Lawrence Memorial Hospital Endowment Association will host its 23rd annual Stepping Out Against Breast Cancer fundraiser from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday at the Crown Toyota Pavilion, 3400 S. Iowa St.

The costume dance party is for people ages 18 and over. Snacks and beverages will be provided and local band Sellout will perform. Tickets are $40. Proceeds benefit early detection, education, treatment, support and equipment at the LMH Breast Center and Oncology Unit.

The event is a bit like a Halloween party for adults, LMH Endowment Association development specialist Tracy Davidson said.

“It’s a culmination of coming together, having a great time and helping out a great cause,” Davidson said.

This year’s theme is “Strike Out Breast Cancer: Spare the Pair.” Davidson said the Crown Toyota Pavilion would be decked out in pink bowling pins.

Raffle tickets will be sold for chances to win a gift basket, a golf cart and a trip for two to the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya Resort in Mexico.

Davidson said she expects about 850 people to attend this year’s event. She hopes to raise about $85,000, which will remain in Lawrence.

“It is important to Lawrencians to keep that money local,” Davidson said. “We have to keep up with what is going on to make sure we have vibrant, cutting edge practices to take care of the community.”
