Two local agencies receive grants to combat sexual assault, domestic violence

Two local agencies will receive state grants in 2015 to combat domestic violence and sexual assault in the community.

GaDuGi SafeCenter and the Willow Domestic Violence Center, both of Lawrence, were awarded the money under the 2015 Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services program, Gov. Sam Brownback’s office announced this week. The $4 million state general-fund program provides funding to support services, outreach and training for community-based sexual and domestic violence service providers.

GaDuGi SafeCenter, which provides advocacy services for victims of sexual violence in Douglas, Franklin and Jefferson counties, was granted $53,501. Willow Domestic Violence Center, which shelters and counsels domestic violence victims in the same three counties, will receive $197,033.
