Thursday morning storms produce heavy rain in Lawrence area

Thursday morning storms dropped 1.68 inches of rain in Lawrence, according to measurements made just before noon at Lawrence Municipal Airport.

The heavy rain and reports of street flooding across the city prompted the National Weather Service in Topeka to issue an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Douglas County. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was originally issued through the afternoon, but the watch was cancelled shortly before noon.

Other precipitation amounts reported, as of mid-afternoon Thursday, at personal weather stations in and around Douglas County: 1.71 inches in Eudora, 1.83 inches in Baldwin City, and 1.92 inches in De Soto.

Wednesday night thunderstorms brought 0.63 inches of rain to Lawrence, according to airport measurements.
