40 years ago: Survey responders favor KC-to-Denver train

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 2, 1974:

The Lawrence Chamber of Commerce had received more than 100 responses in favor of a Kansas City to Denver Amtrak route. The chamber was conducting the survey at the request of Rep. Donn J. Everett, Kansas legislative floor leader, to determine support for a state subsidy of the proposed route, provided Colorado also agreed to share the subsidy costs. Everett was planning to present a bill in the next session of the legislature backing the route. The proposed route would depart Lawrence at 7:50 p.m. and arrive in Denver at 7:30 the next morning; its return would depart Denver at 7 p.m. and arrive in Lawrence at 8:05 a.m. The train would also stop in Topeka, Manhattan, Salina, Hays, Oakley, Ellis, and Sharon Springs.
