Linwood man with meth conviction gets more prison time for gun charge

A Linwood man with a previous conviction for conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine was sentenced to another prison term this week for possessing guns.

A federal judge on Tuesday sentenced Ryan Ridens, 47, to 188 months, or more than 15 years, in federal prison, according to Jim Cross of U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom’s office. A grand jury returned an indictment in March 2013 charging Ridens with possession of firearms, and he pleaded guilty in April of this year.

Ridens’ attorney argued for a lesser sentence, saying a meth addiction fueled his past criminal history and that incarceration would afford him the opportunity for treatment, according to a sentencing memorandum filed in federal court.

However, according to court documents, prosecutors said his prior record meant he should be sentenced as an armed career criminal, with a minimum of 188 months in prison.
