Today in Lawrence: No shortage of holiday events, including ice skating

It's time for the Bizarre Bazaar, an annual art fair featuring dozens of booths with a wide range of art. Holiday weather

Today’s high will be 57 degrees with sunny skies. The low overnight will be 41 degrees. Saturday will be even warmer, with a high of 63 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Sunday will cool off to 45 degrees, with the overnight low dropping to 18 degrees.

Get iced

Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department will host the grand opening of the Library Plaza Skate Rink at 3 p.m. Friday. The Library Plaza Skate Rink is next to the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. After a brief ceremony, the skate rink will open for public skate until 8 p.m. Cost is $3 per person, which includes skate rental. Skating is open to those 3 and older. Children 10 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. No personal skates are allowed.

Saving Santa

Join Downtown Lawrence for the annual Holiday Lighting Ceremony. Live entertainment for the whole family begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday at Ninth and Massachusetts street, courtesy of Lawrence Arts Center. Dancers from the Kansas Nutcracker will make an appearance along with the Lawrence Children’s Choir. At 6 p.m. the mayor will pull the switch illuminating the holiday lights, and Santa will appear on the rooftop of Weaver’s and be rescued by the Lawrence Fire Department.

Art at Van Go

The Adornment Holiday Art Show and Sale is not just an art show, it’s an experience! To witness the proud face of a young artist when their piece has sold is really what Adornment is all about. The show is from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Van Go, 715 New Jersey St.
