Perry Ellis scores 17 to bounce back
KANSAS 87, RIDER 60
Kansas University junior forward Perry Ellis, who had four points and two boards against Kentucky, responded with 17 points in 26 minutes during KU’s 87-60 home win against Rider.
He had three boards.
“Perry played well. He was aggressive the first half (11 points in 12 minutes),” KU coach Bill Self said. “He attacked the rim one time really well. He gets three rebounds in 26 minutes, so he’s getting one rebound every nine minutes. In a game like that, he should be getting one rebound every four minutes. He’s got to a better job rebounding the ball. When it really gets down to it, if you’re going to be a good rebounding team, of course, your guards need to clean up but still your big guys who play the majority of the minutes have got to go get numbers. They’ve got to go get balls. All our big guys have to do a better job with that.”
Ellis said: “We definitely were anxious (to play a game after the Kentucky loss). We’ve been working hard and had some really tough practices. So we were definitely ready to get out there and get after it.”
