40 years ago: Lawrence offers food, movies, live music this weekend

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 24, 1974:

Movies playing in Lawrence theaters this week included “Harry & Tonto” at the Granada and “The Trial of Billy Jack” at the Varsity. At the Hillcrest 3, patrons could choose among “The Longest Yard” with Burt Reynolds, “The Groove Tube,” and the musical “1776.” Hungry folks could visit Taco Tico, 2340 Iowa, which invited customers to “winterize your appetite” with a “Giant Tacoburger.” Normally selling for 79 cents, this “Big, Big Sandwich” was on sale for 59 cents and was “filled with taco meat, beans, lettuce, cheddar cheese, tomato, spices, & sauce of your choice.” Not in the mood for a tacoburger? Patrons at Sandy’s, 2120 W. Ninth, could take advantage of a sale on the “delicious Sandy Jr.” which was available this weekend for 50 cents (marked down from 65 cents) and which included “two pure beefsteak patties, melted cheese, special sauce, shredded lettuce.” Anyone needing to work off their dinner could drop in at the Eagles Lodge, where Big Ed & the Wild Bunch and the Honey Creek Clan were playing for dances this weekend.
