Stretches of 19th Street closed through Nov. 26 after water main breaks

Stretches of 19th Street, east of Haskell Avenue, will be closed Friday and into next week as city crews repair damage from two overnight water main breaks.

Parts of 19th Street between Haskell Avenue and Harper Street will be closed to through traffic until Wednesday, Nov. 26, after a water main break near the intersection of 19th Street and Miller Drive.

Detours around the area will direct traffic to 15th and 23rd streets. During repairs, residents will have access to their homes via side streets.

A second water main break will reduce 19th Street, east of Harper, to one lane through the weekend. Detours are also in place at that location, and residents will have access to their homes.

Some homes and businesses in the affected areas were without water Friday morning. The Lawrence Humane Society, 1805 E 19th St., said its staff had to bring in extra water for shelter pets to drink.
