Lawrence police arrested a 45-year-old Lawrence man on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault late Wednesday after responding to a report of a disturbance with weapons at Playerz Sports Bar, 1910 Haskell Ave.

Police suspect that Willie Joe Clemons was involved in an argument inside the bar that moved outside Wednesday, Lawrence Police Depart spokesman Trent McKinley said. While outside, police allege, Clemons pointed a handgun at two individuals and fired a shot into the air about 10 p.m., McKinley said.

Clemons and several other individuals left the scene before officers could arrive, McKinley said. Officers later found Clemons at his East Lawrence home and booked him into the Douglas County Jail just before midnight Thursday.
