Jayhawks delayed at airport for hours after loss

After enduring a blowout loss to Kentucky, the Kansas basketball team experienced some travel problems Tuesday night/this morning in Indianapolis.

The Jayhawks, who were told of a mechanical problem with their charter plane, finally boarded the plane about 3 a.m., Eastern time, 2 a.m., Lawrence time.

They were being served beverages by the flight attendants on the plane that seats over 120 individuals as the clock approached 3:30 a.m.

A KU spokesperson said the pilot explained the part needed to fix the problem was en route, thus folks nestled into their seats for a long wait.

As of 3:30, everybody was wide awake on the plane. The plane was not uncomfortable temperature wise at least on a bitterly cold night, the heat apparently working.

It was finally cleared for takeoff at 4:33 a.m.

KU’s players, coaches and some donors who pay to fly on the charter pretty much filled the aircraft to capacity.

After a long night, both on the court and on the plane, the Jayhawks finally arrived back in Lawrence at 6:25 a.m.
