House fire reported west of Baldwin City

Firefighters from several townships are battling a house fire just west of U.S. 59 Highway, about four miles northwest of Baldwin City.

The home is located at 1222 North 482 Road in Willow Springs Township. It is approximately seven miles south of Lawrence.

The call was dispatched at 12:03 a.m. with a resident reporting a possible attic fire with smoke coming from the ceiling. When the residents evacuated, they found the roof of the house was engulfed in flames.

A Douglas County Deputy arrived to confirm that all of the residents, and their pets, had safely evacuated from the home.

Firefighters are working to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby treeline. No other homes are in danger. The home is likely a total loss.

Just after 1 a.m. firefighters reported a partial collapse of a deck on the back of the home. Firefighters have also been told that there is ammunition just inside one of the front windows.

Additional firefighters were called to the scene around 2:15 a.m.

No injuries have been reported.

The National Weather Service shows a current temperature at Lawrence Municipal Airport of 16°F.
