Snow causes two accidents Sunday morning

The first snow brought some slippery roads resulting in two accidents Sunday morning.

Gina Emel, 24, was driving southbound on Highway 59 at 4:32 a.m. Sunday when she slid on the snow at mile marker 149, said Douglas County Public Safety Officer Lt. Steve Lewis. Lewis said Emel overcorrected her vehicle, hitting the embankment on the west side of the highway. She was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she will be released sometime Sunday, according to LMH.

Richard Vega was driving west on Highway 40 East of East 550 Road near Lecompton at little after 5 a.m. Sunday when he lost traction in the snow, Lewis said. The vehicle spun out and rolled on the hillside ejecting Vega from the car, Lewis said. Vega was also taken to LMH but was released Sunday morning, according to LMH records.
